Duluth music scene provides options for all

Photo of Doomtree It’s the weekend, or perhaps just a Wednesday, you happen to enjoy listening to live music and you find yourself in the Twin Ports. That's good, because Duluth’s music scene is something that is alive and well, and ready to please your ears.

New bars and venues are popping up around the city, such as The Red Herring Lounge. Which is also home to Duluth’s own indie record label, Chaperone Records.

Almost every night of the week you can find something going on in the music scene of Duluth. For example, almost every Tuesday through Saturday you can find live music in the Fitger’s complex, either at the Fitger’s Brewhouse or across the hall at Red Star Lounge.

With bars and venues-a-plenty comes the talent that plays at them. Duluth is home to some bigger name musicians and bands such as Trampled by Turtles and Charlie Parr. However, Duluth is also home to a lot of lesser-known talents trying to make their mark in the music world.

Duluth and the surrounding area also draw some nationally known bands and musicians to its venues. More recently, Minneapolis-based rap group, Doomtree shook the rafters of Grandma’s Sports Garden a couple weeks ago, in support of their new album, “All Hands”. Also at the Sports Garden, Minneapolis-based rapper, Prof performed for a sold out crowd just before Valentine's day on Feb. 13.

If you’re looking for some live music and want to avoid the louder, 21 plus bar scene, Duluth is home to a number of locally owned coffee shops that often play host to musicians. All you have to do is make your way down to the Canal Park area and you’ll find Amazing Grace Café and along with it many local singer/songwriter’s playing smaller and more intimate shows.

There’s surely something for all types of music lovers and concertgoers in the Duluth area. All you have to do is get out there and explore the vast music scene that the Twin Ports has to offer.
