Meet the staff: Ben Hallamek

BEN

Who am I?

I  am Ben Hallamek. I am a 24–year-old journalism major at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I am from a small town of 300 outside Duluth, called Wrenshall, MN. I graduated with a class of 24 people. So to me, Duluth is the “big city.” I started out my collegiate academic career at the Lake Superior College. I graduated in 2012 with an associate in arts degree as well as a television and radio production degree. One year later I enrolled at The University of Minnesota Duluth. At the time I was working at KBJR as a video editor and I wanted to start producing content rather than produce them. This semester I am using those television skills I have picked up to produce and write video content for Lake Voice News. I look forward to how my stories turn out and what the semester has in store for me!

What Interests Me:

In my spare time I like to exercise outside. That can include anything from kayaking, running, cycling, and rollerblading to rock climbing or just getting lost in the woods. I play video games in my spare time and like to make fun video projects to make people laugh.  People interest me, I like talking to people and finding out who they are. I also love to travel and see the world.

Why Duluth?

Duluth is close to home. It allows me to be close to my family and friends that I grew up with throughout my childhood. I love the outdoors and all that it has to offer, so Duluth is a good fit for me. It’s hard to get bored when Duluth and the surrounding communities offer so much to do outside.
