For everyone that is looking for something fun and free to do this week, Duluth has many options. Here's a few things I thought would be particularly interesting and easy on the wallet... How about trying a new sport, like Irish Hurling- the fastest game on grass? Duluth Hurling Club started up the summer of 2012 and are going on strong. Practice is every Monday and Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm down at Park Point. Don't miss your chance to get a few practices in before the snow comes! Also keep your eyes peeled for their story this week on Lake Voice to read up on the background of the sport and club. Duluth Hurling Club Facebook page
Perhaps after hurling practice on Friday, October 11th, you could head over to "Flashback Friday" at the Rex bar and relive your middle school years, but now with a couple beers. Starting at 9:00 pm, they will be playing the jams and games we all know and miss.
In case you are not feeling so intense but still want to get outside and soak up the beautiful fall weather while it lasts, check out the NMTC Fall Trail Series. Wednesday, October 9th the Northern Minnesota Track Club is hosting a free 6k run through Hawk Ridge. Race will take off at 6:00 pm.
For all the bikers out there, on Thursday, October 10th, head on down to the The Bike Cave for a free bike repair from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Then you will be all set for the Bike with a Cop Community Bike Ride on Saturday, October 12th to learn the bike safety rules of the road. The group will take off at 10:00 am from the Rose Garden parking lot and ride for an hour. BYOB - the final "B" is for "bike"; not to be confused with beer- and helmet.
While you're down the hill after the bike ride Saturday, October 12th, may as well head on over to Get to the Point Art and Gift Fair from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Christmas is just around the corner and this would be a great opportunity to knock some gifts off the list.
